February 16, 2007 - Amber Kay, Executive Director of Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary in Aurora, Illinois, rescues the dogs no one wants. Among them are many pit bulls. Amber has come across many abandoned, neglected and abused pit bulls.
Many of the dogs she has rescued were literally hours away from being euthanized.
Because this highly intelligent breed and the mixes have received so much negative publicity, they are often victims of abuse. There are those that want to train an animal to be vicious and scary. This becomes a statement for certain individuals.
In other cases, a pit bull’s owner may fall upon hard times or due to other reasons, no longer be able to care for their dog. Due to misconceptions, they find that getting someone to adopt their dog, no matter how loving, is a real project and the dog often ends up at a shelter awaiting a certain death unless a guardian angel, like Amber, comes along.
As the Executive Director of Fur Angels Animal Sanctuary, Amber’s focus is to ensure the dog is one that can be placed in a home. She ensures the dog is up to date on shots and neutered. All dogs available for adoption are loving dogs who desperately want a home of their own. Some are a little nervous or timid, the victims of a not so happy life before Amber. All of them hope that each day brings a stable home that they can call their own.
Honey, am American Staffordshire, is one of the recent success stories.
She was adopted this week. Diesel, whose owner relocated, is awaiting his turn for a good home along with many other cats and dogs including a fun loving dog that is deaf.
