April 05, 2008 - The artists at PebbleArt Designs have created a series of unique candle holders using a variety of natural stone tiles.
PebbleArt has just developed a line of candle holders crafted from natural stone tile. The series of 5 candle holders are crafted from materials as diverse as slate, sandstone, and marble, and are all hand carved by American artists. While PebbleArt has carried imported stone candle holders in their inventory before, this new line marks the first series of original candle designs created entirely on site.
Spearheaded by artist Minerva Stone, the PebbleArt team leapt enthusiastically into the creation of candle holders late last year. Since then the designs have been tweaked, re-worked, re-thought, and re-shaped until they were ready for public consumption.
The designs vary wildly from tall pillar style candle holders crafted for taper candles, to smaller more modest platforms intended for tea lights. Most models have some type of pattern worked into the outside of the piece.
The candle holders, while made in the United States, are actually crafted entirely from imported materials. Oak Wood Green Marble and Rainbow Sandstone are two types of stone which are featured in these designs. In most cases, the patterns found naturally in the stone were the inspiration for the artwork.
For the most part the material used was 12” X 12” tile, with a 3 / 8” – 1 / 2” thickness. Being so thin, the designers had to layer the stone in such a way that the edges were hidden by themselves. This allowed them to get very elaborate with the actual shape of the pieces, since they were formed from interlocking planes.
