Portland-Vancouver, OR-WA (1888PressRelease)
June 23, 2009 - Plastic tubing manufacturer Freelin-Wade (www.freelin-wade.com), announced today that for a second year in a row, their McMinnville Area Relay for Life team raised more than $10,000.
Each year, the company sponsors a Relay for Life team. Starting in the Fall, the team hosts dozens of fund-raising events. In November, the team invited the community to a Civil War Chili Cook-Off, pitting Ducks against Beavers. Each following month, the company hosted a “Lunch-A-Month” with all of the food being donated and sales going to Relay. Other events included a Rock-Paper-Scissors tournament, a Hot Wheels® race, paper airplane competition, ring toss, scrapbooking workshops, a middle school dance, poker tournament, golf tournament, pumpkin carving contest, pop can drive, a garage sale and something called “Penny Wars” which was a spare change challenge between Freelin-Wade departments.
Team captain, Melissa Wiedeman said of the effort, “This was an absolutely amazing year. We’re not a big company but so many people came together and worked so hard for this. I’m proud of the accomplishment.” She went on to say, “Plus we had a blast doing it. Every Freelin-Wade employee got involved and dozens of people from across the community pitched in too. It was certainly a group effort and everyone should be excited about the result.”
All-in-all, the Freelin-Wade “Tubes” raised $10,006.52 in the fight against cancer. This amount led all McMinnville area teams for a second straight year. The Freelin-Wade team was also the first ever “diamond” level award team in Yamhill County. The American Cancer Society recognizes the top teams from around the country with this award.
