August 06, 2008 - Freelin-Wade Company made two announcements today, both were a result of efficiency gains across their organization. First, they announced that they have achieved a verifiable on-time delivery rate of 99%. The second announcement is that they are freezing their catalog prices for the remainder of 2008.
The company’s efforts at lean manufacturing made both announcements possible. The on-time rate is used within the company as the measuring stick for all of their continuous improvement efforts. Ron J. Miller, the company’s marketing manager said, “Last year we achieved a 98% on-time rate. I think we could have been happy with that but our culture wouldn’t allow it. I think many of the people here just saw 98% as a challenge and worked to improve upon that.”
Regarding the price freeze, Miller said, “Just like everyone else, our cost for raw materials, transportation and energy have been skyrocketing. Unlike our competitors though, we are not going to increase our catalog prices for the remainder of 2008.”
