Freelin-Wade Announces Coextrusion Capability for Fluid Power Industry

Coextruded tubing is two tubes in one, giving the user the benefits of two different plastic materials. The user may want the flexibility, abraision resistance and snap-back of polyurethane but the chemical resistance and temperature range of nylon 11. Coextrusion makes that happen.

(1888PressRelease) July 29, 2008 - Today, Freelin-Wade (www.freelin-wade.com) is announcing their new coextrusion capability. Specifically for the fluid power industry, this announcement means increased capabilities and efficiency.

Coextrusion is simply put, “a tube within a tube.” How that happens is as the inside tube is being formed, the outside tube is being formed too. The result is that the two tubes become one. The process has been around for a while. In fact, the colored stripes that are common on drinking straws are put there through a coextrusion process. Though the process is not new, Freelin-Wade’s technology development and experience in the fluid power industry, make this a ground breaking announcement.

Freelin-Wade’s Marketing Manager, Ron Miller said, “The big benefit to the fluid power industry is that the two coextruded layers can be made from different materials. Our customer could for instance, have Nylon 11 with all of it’s chemical resistance properties on the inside and abrasion resistant polyurethane on the outside.” He went on to say, “You get the best attributes of both materials. The resulting tube resists kinking like urethane but you can run chemicals through the tube that require Nylon 11. Another plus is that like urethane, when it’s coiled it has that snap-back quality that is so desirable.”

Coextruded tubing is available from the company starting immediately. Because there are so many combinations of materials, diameters and colors, all coextruded tubes are done as custom orders. Call Freelin-Wade for more information.

Founded in 1980, Freelin-Wade is North America’s largest independent manufacturer of plastic tubing and hoses for industries as diverse as pneumatics, dental and promotions. The company employs more than 100 people at its McMinnville, Oregon plant. Privately held Freelin-Wade is a subsidiary of Coilhose Pneumatics. Freelin-Wade tubing is always an exact fit and with a verifiable on-time delivery rate exceeding 99%, their customers know precisely when their order will arrive. Freelin-Wade is well connected.
