October 14, 2006 - UK copywriting firm, Buzzwords Limited, celebrates 25 years in business this year with an all-new website (http://www.buzzwords.ltd.uk) and a new range of online copywriting services.
The company was set up by freelance copywriter Mike Beeson in 1981 to provide a responsive copywriting facility for advertising agencies in the Manchester area. Along the way, Mike has worked for a wide range of blue-chip organisations, SMEs, advertising, design and PR agencies – as a visit to the website will testify.
“Things took off pretty quickly in the 80s,” said Mike, “and the boom years of 1988 to 1991 were staggering. The whole advertising and PR scene has changed completely since then, of course. Copywriting was relegated to being the hand-maiden of designers and, as a breed, you could safely say that copywriters were an unloved lot!”
In order to cope with changing economic times, the business continued to diversify. Public relations became more important; major catalogue companies had an ongoing need for catchy headlines and clever descriptions; whilst smaller clients – with their new in-house desk-top publishing systems – were increasingly on the lookout for cost-effective marketing support.
“The surprise package, in copywriting terms,” Mike continued, “has been in the noughties. The past three years have seen an explosive demand for good professional copywriters who can handle the online stuff.
“More and more people are realising that website content is an important part of improving search engine rankings. Everyone wants to be Number One in Google – and some companies can achieve just that with the right kind of copywriting support.”
The Buzzwords’ website focuses on three main services: first, there’s the so-called ‘traditional’ areas of copywriting such as advertising, brochures, newsletters and direct marketing; then there’s PR which includes media coverage – on and off-line; and lastly comes the ever-widening field of Internet marketing, online copywriting, websites, content and article writing.
