Free Workshop For Writers Shares Tips To Get Published, Promoted And Paid

Self-publishing workshop gives potential authors a road map on how to take their book from paper to print. The author-publisher who smartly produces a book can keep a bigger share of the profits.

Shreveport-Bossier City, LA (1888PressRelease) February 21, 2008 - Aspiring writers and experienced authors who want to make money on their books can learn the business of publishing their own works in a free workshop at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 23, at the Hamilton-South Caddo branch of Shreve Memorial Library. The workshop, Writing that Sells: Tips to getting published, promoted and paid, will give a complete overview of the self-publishing process, including suggestions for cost-effective ways of managing the project.

"Self-publishing is a way for writers to get their works out on the market more quickly than waiting to find an agent who then must find a publisher," said Monica Carter Tagore, workshop presenter and author. "Self-publishing allows the talented to writer to take control of the book project."

The author-publisher who smartly produces a book can keep a bigger share of the profits. But education is key, if the author-publisher wants to profit from the book, and not simply waste money throughout the process, as often happens. Some aspiring writers make the mistake of signing deals with vanity presses that produce little more than disappointment -- at great expense -- while others suffer at the hands of unscrupulous vendors who will take advantage of a novice writer's desire to get into print. But that does not have to happen.

"Self-publishing is a business and should be treated that way," said Tagore, who both holds a traditional publishing deal through a New York publisher and publishes projects on her own. "So that means learning the business of producing a quality book, marketing it, and making money from it. It means knowing what to expect ahead of time, so you can properly prepare and not waste money and time."

The event is free, but registration is requested. Register by sending an e-mail to info ( @ ) knowledgewealthseries dot com with your name and phone number, and "Register me" in the subject line.
