Frank R. Seaver Trust Donates $12.1 Million To Good Samaritan Hospital

President and CEO of Good Samaritan Hospital Andrew B. Leeka announced a benefaction of $ 12.1 million from the Frank R. Seaver Trust toward the construction of a state-of-the-art medical, outpatient and ambulatory surgery center.

Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) May 14, 2009 - This is the largest single contribution toward the much-needed medical facility in the burgeoning downtown area of Los Angeles, which has had a population growth of 20% between 2005 and 2007.

“We are very grateful to the Frank R. Seaver Trust for this major gift toward the construction of the Ambulatory Surgery Center located in our planned Good Samaritan Medical Plaza and Outpatient Pavilion,” said Mr. Leeka. “This contribution will have a significant effect on the health and wellbeing of our community, not only today, but for generations to come. The generosity of the Trust and the continued support of the Seaver family allows us to continue to be innovative, cost-efficient and state-of-the-art; the dividends of which are more personalized care, enhanced teaching capabilities and unsurpassed outpatient experiences for our staff, doctors and, most of all, our patients.”

“Good Samaritan Hospital has been and continues to be a vital institution for Los Angeles and for generations of the Seaver family,” said Victoria Seaver Dean, president of the Seaver Institute and Trustee of the Frank R. Seaver Trust. “It is an exciting time to be investing in the hospital and in Los Angeles. The new Ambulatory Surgery Center will provide important additional services to the downtown and surrounding communities. It is an honor to have the name of Frank R. Seaver, who was generous to many Southern California institutions, affiliated with Good Sam’s tradition of superior and innovative care.”

The Good Samaritan Medical Plaza and Outpatient Pavilion that will include the Frank R. Seaver Ambulatory Surgery Center will serve an increasing population of younger, educated and affluent residents.

The 7-story, 190,000 square foot medical center next to the hospital is expected to break ground later this year with an estimated cost of $81 million at completion. Nearly $60 million has been raised; the unprecedented gift of $12.1 million by the Seaver family was in concert with the family’s continuing confidence in and support of a strong, healthy and viable downtown community.

Victoria Seaver Dean is thrilled that the donation will strengthen Good Samaritan’s financial future and will perfectly position it to respond to the downtown community with state-of-the-art quality tertiary care while also “keeping Good Sam true to its mission to provide healthcare that is accessible, affordable and delivered with passion.”
