March 02, 2009 - On March 2, 2009, actress Francia Raisa will be volunteering to support the National Education Association’s Read Across America program designed to promote literacy while instilling a lifelong love of reading in elementary school students. Francia Raisa will be joining individuals from various fields of entertainment (including others from her cast of ABC Family’s “The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) to read children’s literature to the students at the Compton Unified School District elementary schools. The hope is that by acting as a positive role model, students are not only motivated to read more, they become aware that reading is a vital component of succeeding in any profession. Read Across America is an annual event set to coincide with Dr. Seuss’ birthday (March 2nd).
“Read Across America is a great event. With so much going on with technology these days, it seems like literature is overlooked more and more. I am all for supporting this effort and promoting literacy in children,” shares Francia Raisa.
Actress Francia Raisa is best known for her series regular role as “Adrian Lee” on the hit new ABC Family series “The Secret Life of the American Teenager.” The series aired summer 2008 and has remained one of the top shows in its time slot while also taking the honor for the 2008 Teen Choice Award for “Choice Summer TV Show.” Now ABC Family has ordered an extra-long second season for the hit drama. On February 9, 2009, ABC Family announced the pick-up of a 24-episode second run tentatively set to return in the summer of 2009. Season one of “American Teenager” will complete its first season on March 23rd.
