Forty Years Later Vietnam Veterans Unite At Nations Capitol

Reuion Of Vietnam Veterans Forty Years After War In Vietnam

(1888PressRelease) May 24, 2009 - Vietnam Veterans gather: To Salute Fellow Veterans; To Share with Each Other the Bond that Only War can Bring; To Honor our Fallen Comrades.

Recon Platoon, Echo Company, 2d Battalion 60th Infantry, 9th Infantry Division Stationed at Tan Tru, Vietnam 1968-1969 will have it’s forth reunion 19-21 June, 2009 at Washington DC.

This platoon was more of a super infantry platoon rather then a recon platoon. The battalion commander then LTC Fred K. Mahaffee wanted it that way.

The missions we went on for the most part were picked by the battalion commander they included: Airmobile Operations by Day and at Night, Ambush’s mostly at night, Raid missions on pin point targets mostly at night. We used Navy boats to be inserted on some of our raid missions. We also did a lot of search and destroy missions.

All the men that served in the platoon during my time as platoon sergeant were awarded the Combat Infantryman’s Badge. All but two of them were awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received. At least three men were awarded the Silver Star.

While at the Vietnam Memorial we will pay our respects to our brother that made the ultimate sacrifice William Gouger better known as Little John.

Having served twenty-six years in the Army it was my privilege to serve with these soldiers that to me were absolutely the best at what they did.
