Former Warner Brothers Recording Artist Launches Solo Project With Unconventional Fan-based Promotion

A new record is being independently released by Daniel Anderson of the band Idiot Pilot, who left Warner Brothers Records in 2009 after releasing two full length albums, by using a variety of fan-participation based promotion methods.

Bellingham, WA (1888PressRelease) June 16, 2009 - Over the last year, Daniel Anderson of the alternative rock band Idiot Pilot, has been recording his debut full-length album under the moniker The Ghost And The Grace. Recently split from the major label Warner Brothers Records, Anderson's The Ghost And The Grace will be entirely self-released and distributed through the band's online store.

The debut album, titled Behold! A Pale Horse, is currently available for pre-order, and will be released on June 29th, 2009. Promotion of the record has been unusual, relying strongly on fan-based participation. During the week of June 7th through 14th, everyone who purchased the album receives a personal "Thank you" phone call from Anderson.

"It's probably going to take a lot of time" Anderson, 23, says, "I want to make sure that the fans who want to talk to me actually get to have a meaningful conversation. I don't want to just say 'hello' and 'goodbye.' If someone is going to take the time to pay for my music and listen to my records, the least I can do is thank them properly." So far, only a handful of phone calls have been made, but over the following week Anderson will continue to contact fans.

The purpose of the promotion is an attempt to further break down the barriers between musician and consumer.

Next, Anderson plans on attempting a series of video blogs in which The Ghost And The Grace listeners participate in the actual songwriting for the next album. This will be done in a step-by-step process, encouraging fans to submit their ideas, or vote for a particular songwriting decision.

The Ghost And The Grace is a departure from the sound previously crafted by Idiot Pilot, a band known for their electronica soundscapes and more aggressive, hardcore sensibilities. "I wanted The Ghost And The Grace to be more of a rootsy, folk-based project," says Anderson "Unlike Idiot Pilot, almost all of the instruments on the record are acoustic." Prominently featured on many of the songs is the banjo, which Anderson also used for much of the song writing on Behold! A Pale Horse.
