- Atlanta, GA (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2012 - Former Atlanta Police Department Officer and Former Clayton County Sheriff's Office Lieutenant Deputy, G.R. Newsom, has announced his candidacy for Clayton County Sheriff for 2012 after being encouraged to run by local civic leaders and small business owners throughout Clayton County. "Citizens have continuously been inundated with Sheriff's Office leaders having personal agendas that deviate consistently from the mission of the Sheriff's Office core responsibilities here in Clayton. I have watched over the past 10 years as Clayton County has changed; however, current leadership seems to not embrace the idea that change," Newsom says. The official tagline for the Newsom campaign for Sheriff is: "Our Community. Our Time. Our Change."
G.R. Newsom not only has more than a decade of law enforcement training, community involvement, and service in City of Atlanta and Clayton; but his background as a local business owner with more than twenty years of leadership and management experience afforded him what he believes is the ability to lead the county's sheriff office in a strategic direction based on direct knowledge and experience in working with Clayton County Commissioners and community leaders to develop outcomes that are positive for the entire area.
Major issues in Clayton County that G.R. Newsom plans to address in his campaign include increasing business and resident safety by partnering with the Clayton County community and proper management of the county jail through accreditation and qualified staff. Newsom believes these steps will help to protect taxpayer dollars along with developing cohesive relationships with other Clayton County government offices and enforcing the following up on reports and the execution of warrants.Newsom is the father of three children. He has a daughter and two sons who were all born and raised in Metro Atlanta. Newsom currently resides in Jonesboro where he is raising his youngest son.
"Responsible leadership at the helm in the Clayton County Sheriff's Office is our new direction. And my goal is to bring that forward into the new administration as I run for sheriff," says Newsom.
