Forbes Living to Report on Locks of Love on an Upcoming Segment
Forbes Living looks at a romantic tradition that is doing some serious damage.
- Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) June 10, 2014 - The Forbes Living TV show will address the question: can too much love be a bad thing even a destructive force? Municipal authorities in large, romantic cities the world over are scrambling to prevent a tide of destruction to public infrastructure, especially bridges. It began with the Pont des Arts in Paris, but spread to the Brooklyn Bridge in New York and major structure elsewhere. Impassioned lovers would buy a padlock, mark or engrave it with their names, and snap it securely to the railing of the bridge or an accessible support beam. The romance of the idea is inescapable: "our love is solidly locked so long as this edifice shall stand". But all this love tens to hundreds of thousands of heavy locks being supported by railings that were never meant to bear such a burden is starting to do some damage. Recently, a railing on the Pont des Arts collapsed under the weight. Authorities in Paris and other cities have rushed to remove these nuisances, a tedious task to cut them off one at a time. While one small act of love is sentimental, when you multiply it by tens of thousands, it can create unforeseen problems.
