Forbes Living to Investigate Home Buying in Disaster Zones on an Upcoming Segment
Forbes Living will discuss why people don't seem to be dissuaded from buying property in places known for natural disasters.
- Fort Lauderdale, FL (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2014 - The Forbes Living TV show will highlight the tendency of Americans to stay and rebuild even in places known for annual hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes or floods. The old proverb that states that the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and somehow expecting a different result comes to life in the US every year after people's homes are devastated by natural disasters. Even when the location can be shown to contribute to the likelihood of a recurring disaster the next year, people don't seem to heed that warning. This affects some 10 million homes 8% of all American housing units mostly in the highest risk counties in the nation. Interestingly, the median prices for many of these homes tend to be 41% higher than others in the region, hinting that there are other factors that are keeping these properties very desirable. Obviously, those attractive features must outweigh the inherent dangers that come with these homes.
