Fontbonne University Announces New VP for Academic Affairs

  • St. Louis, MO-IL (1888PressRelease) July 02, 2015 - Fontbonne University has named Carey Adams vice president for academic affairs, effective July 1. Adams will oversee the university's academic programs, curriculum assessment, educational policy, academic accreditation as well as faculty engagement in student success, enrollment and retention.

    "Following an extensive search, Carey was clearly the preferred choice to be the next leader of our academic future," said J. Michael Pressimone, Fontbonne's president. "Carey's passion for leadership in education makes him the ideal person to serve in this role. His demonstrated record of success in academic affairs will bring significant strength to our existing programs."

    Adams served since 2012 as the provost and vice president for academic affairs at Armstrong State University in Savannah, Ga. In his role, he oversaw the academic affairs division, including a satellite campus in Hinesville, Ga., and served on the university's comprehensive campaign advisory council. Prior to his role at Armstrong, he served for 21 years at Missouri State University in Springfield, Mo., as a faculty member, director, department head, and dean of the College of Arts and Letters.

    Adams earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Religion from William Jewell College in Liberty, Mo., in 1986, a Master of Arts in Communication Studies from Baylor University in Waco, Texas, in 1987, and a Doctor of Philosophy in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kan., in 1992.
