March 28, 2007 - SANTA BARBARA, California—March 21, 2007—FluencyNow.com today announced the launch of the first of its kind foreign language learning website providing live, conversation-based tutoring with native speakers using webcams and streaming video.
Travel is always more fun and rewarding when one can speak with locals. FluencyNow allows clients to prepare for their travels by practicing conversation with native language speakers. FluencyNow can be used as a primary source of learning or as a supplement to other instructional methods, such as books or CDs. Languages currently offered include Spanish, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, English, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, Hindi, Nepali, Russian and Ukrainian, with new languages being added regularly.
“I’ve always found that my most special and memorable travel experiences have occurred when I’ve been able to speak to and interact with locals,” says Laura Creasey, a co-founder of FluencyNow. “People always embrace you make an effort to speak their language. We started FluencyNow to help our clients have those memorable experiences.”
Each one-on-one tutoring session with a native language speaker allows the client to practice speaking and comprehending their target language.
FluencyNow’s mission is to give clients the confidence to communicate comfortably with locals—everything from basic greetings and ordering food to conversation about life in other countries.
“I always recommend that my clients traveling internationally take a few FluencyNow classes,” says Nancy Klein, a travel agent in Miami, Florida.
“People spend so much time and money on their vacations abroad. Why not spend a few dollars more and be able to speak with people? I have even bought some tutoring sessions for my best clients as ‘Bon Voyage’ and ‘Happy Holidays’ gifts.”
FluencyNow is internet browser based and uses Macromedia’s Flash plug-in. This means no application downloads to the client’s computer, eliminating any security risks to their computer. A client only needs a high-speed internet connection and a headset with microphone. Each tutor uses a high quality webcam so the client can see, hear and converse with their tutor. The system has been designed for ease of use and good audio/video quality, without the need for specialized software and hardware.
The company is based in Santa Barbara, California.
