  • (1888PressRelease) July 18, 2015 - MIAMI, FL .- The College of Architecture + The Arts (CARTA) at FIU has launched a media platform titled Inspicio that provides insight into all arts disciplines with an emphasis on Miami.

The first phase of the platform is the website: http://inspicio.fiu.edu/ with subsequent phases including an e-magazine anticipated to publish in the fall, and further in the future, a semiannual printed magazine Please register for a complimentary subscription to Inspicio here: http://inspicio.fiu.edu/complimentary-subscription/.

"Visitors to Inspicio from the FIU, South Florida and global communities will experience the vibrant diversity and rich world-class creativity of Miami," said CARTA Dean Brian Schriner.

Pronounced "een-spee-cho," it is a Latin word meaning to inspect, examine, and review. With that in mind, Inspicio will provide insight into all arts disciplines by featuring essays, articles and columns by veteran writers and journalists along with FIU faculty. FIU students will also have an opportunity to contribute to the site by writing essays and reviews of exhibits and events hosted by local arts organizations. Video interviews on the website feature notable artists, art professionals, and collectors who live in, or engage with the South Florida art community.

Artist and magazine publisher Raymond Elman will serve as Inspicio's founding managing editor. Elman is co-founder of Provincetown Arts magazine, an award-winning publication that has been spotlighting the Cape Cod art community since 1985. Elman left Provincetown Arts in 1989 to engage with the emerging digital communication industry as the national director of creative services at Coopers & Lybrand. A serial entrepreneur, he co-founded Streamline Communications (now the publicly traded Bridgeline Digital), founded Cambria Interactive at Cambria Consulting, and co-founded Aericon, a digital marketing, education and communication company.

In addition, Elman has sustained a visual arts career. Four of his large scale portraits are included in the permanent collection of the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery. Elman has a bachelor's in economics and an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania. He also studied fine arts at the University of Pennsylvania and at New York University.

"Inspicio will manifest FIU's commitment to all of the arts communities of the Miami area by being an independent voice," said Elman.

The publication platform supports CARTA's mission by providing an avenue for FIU students to examine and comment on local art activities and communities in South Florida. The vision for Inspicio is to be a sophisticated enabler of the arts that becomes a resource for anyone interested in the Miami art scene. Added Schriner, "Inspicio provides our students with unparalleled experiential learning opportunities to work with and learn from renown artists, journalists, essayists, and academicians." -FIU-
