March 27, 2006 - RSSI completed confidence testing and turned over four Cable Trap ACBS to base functional representatives. The four taxiways (265 to 405 feet) protect critical airfield assets against intrusion of explosive-laden or unauthorized vehicles. Representatives from the 78th Air Base Wing, the 116th Air Control Wing, the 19th Air Refueling Group, and HQ Electronic Systems Center, Force Protection System Squadron, Hanscom AFB, MA attended the testing and turnover.
The Cable Trap ACBS (RSS-2015CT) provides innovative vehicle anti-ram protection for airport and airfield taxiway gaps or other environments where operational constraints preclude the use of permanent fences or barriers. The RSS-2015 CT flush mounts with the airfield surface and can be expanded to cover an area from 200 to 400 feet or more. Protected taxiways can go from an open (Down) position to a closed (Armed) position in 15 seconds or less. The system controls operate manually from each taxiway or from a master control panel providing man-in-the-loop control at all times. The Cable Trap ACBS is engineered to support aircraft up to and including a 747-400 Freightliner weighing 913,000 pounds.
The Robins AFB project was managed by HQ Electronic Systems Center, Force Protection System Squadron, Hanscom AFB, MA. Functional experts from the HQ Air Force Material Command, Wright-Patterson AFB, OH, Robins AFB, GA, HQ Air Combat Command, Langley AFB, VA as well as the Air Force Civil Engineering Services Agency, Tyndall AFB, FL were involved in the design review and approval of the RSS-2015CT Cable Trap ACBS.
RSSI located in Panama City, FL was founded in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.
