After a bit of trial and error, it becomes clear that most of the results are too good to be true. Incomplete listings are used to tempt the reader into purchasing trial memberships, which are nearly impossible to cancel, cost hundreds of dollars and one can easily be locked in to a 12 month long commitment.
The reality is simple. Realty companies have essentially bought up most of the top search results, by registering most websites containing the words free, foreclosure, real estate, and other terms associated with foreclosed property.
It always turns out the same. following a juicy listing, after six or so clicks into any of these sites, the page asking for a credit card number inevitably comes up. The promise of being able to view the full listing info is one of many perks offered, as the original listing of interest is shown with only partial information.

Stay away from membership sites, as well as sites powered by known realty companies. Not only will these contain empty promises of free listings, it can lead to a costly mistake. It is best to avoid any website with a clickable map of the United States on the homepage, as these are all operated by the same association of realtors.
Paid advertisements especially should set off a red flag, according to Sandra, who ends by reminding us that Nobody is going to build a website and pay ad fees just to give you this stuff for free.
