April 11, 2008 - Eleven North Carolina residents have been named finalists for 2008 Brody Scholarships to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University.
The Brody Scholarship is North Carolina’s most distinguished medical scholarship. This award provides full tuition and fees and most living expenses for four years of medical school. In addition, the Brody Scholarship funds summer enrichment, such as travel abroad and special projects. The program also supports service projects undertaken by scholars while attending medical school.
The Brody Scholarship Award is offered to incoming medical students who show high scholarship ability, with strong evidence of leadership, service, moral character, and a promise of distinction in medicine.
Each year, finalists for the scholarship are chosen from the pool of applicants to the Brody School of Medicine. Students may also self-nominate to be considered for this competitive process. From the interviews and larger application to the medical school, four finalists will be chosen to receive the scholarship.

The Brody Medical Scholarship was established in 1983 by the family of J.S “Sammy” Brody. As part of the family’s long-standing commitment to the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University (ECU), the Brody Medical Scholarship has become North Carolina’s most distinguished medical scholarship. The scholarship provides full tuition and fees to incoming medical students who show high scholarship ability, with strong evidence of leadership, service, moral character, and a promise of distinction in medicine.
