Filipina Maid In Hong Kong Receives Bahamas Work Permit

There is an increasing trend among Bahamian household in hiring a live-in filipina maid from Hong Kong. 1MaidHK.com has the story.

The employer files the application in Bahamas and part of the requirement is to show that there is no suitable Bahamian candidate for the position. This includes advertising in newspapers. Aside from this, the following documents are required upon application :
a) Covering letter
b) First schedule Form 1 duly completed & notarised with a B$4.00 postal stamp affixed
c) Two (2) passport size photographs
d) Medical certificate
e) Police certificate covering five years of residence
f) Business/port authority license/ or proof of ownership of property.
g) Name of Bahamian understudy
h) Complete staff list indicating names, position and nationality
i) $25.00 processing fee
j) Proof of qualifications : i.e. Certificates, references from employer

The processing of Bahamas work permit took approximately 5-6 months from the time the job offer was confirmed. Work permit fees range from $350 to $10,000 per year depending on the category. For the live-in maid category, the employer paid $650 work permit fee.

The Bahamas work permit is light green in color and is approximately 5 inches x 7.75 inches in size. It is valid for one year from the date of issue. The top of the work permit read as "Permit to engage in gainful occupation". It also contain info such as employer's name, domestic helper's name, job position as well as the applicant's photo.

Applicant entering through USA enroute to Bahamas is required to apply for a US transit visa. The procedure and requirements of application is actually the same as US Non-immigrant visa.

A processing fee of HK$1040 payable in any branches of Dah Sing Bank in Hong Kong is required prior to filling in of US non-immigrant visa online application form. It is important to keep the bank receipt of the processing fee as you need to fill in the reference number when you do online booking for interview with US Consular officer. Processing of transit visa/non-immigrant US visa in Hong Kong takes approx. 4 working days.
