September 29, 2009 - Medical Doctors from Jupiter Medical Center in Jupiter, Florida will model clothing alongside Cancer Survivors to raise funds for the Jupiter Medical Center Foundation. The event is a Celebration of Cancer Survivorship and will support the Patient Navigator position at the Foshay Cancer Center.
The fashions are being donated by Harbor Clothing Boutique in the Driftwood Plaza, Jupiter and Bloomingdale’s in Palm Beach Gardens. Raffle items will include autographed sports memorabilia provided by the Miami Heat and the Marlins, a night on the town with various Gift Certificates to Fine Restaurants, a Salon Package, a Grill provided by Home Depot, and much more. Palm Beach Imports in West Palm Beach, one generous sponsor, will be displaying a couple of vehicles at the event.
“The community has been so supportive of our efforts, generously donating items for the raffle as well as placing ads and purchasing tickets despite the tough economy,” said Chris Collins, Event Chairwoman.
Some of the Drs. who will be escorting models and are on the committee include: Dr. Marcelle Bertrand, Dr. David Lickstein, Dr. John Rimmer, and Dr. Gene Shieh. Chris Collins had this to say, “This event will be a huge celebration. We are celebrating survivorship as well as the special bond that forms between the oncology team and a patient. Survivors have invited a member of their medical team that made a difference for them during treatment to escort them down the catwalk. These models are true survivors and are ready to embrace life!”
Jupiter Medical Center Foundation’s mission is to secure the financial resources required to sustain clinical excellence and quality of care at Jupiter Medical Center. The funds raised by Fashioning a Cure will assist the Foundation’s mission. “As a community, we are so fortunate to have a state of the art cancer treatment center so close to home. I would have gone anywhere to fight this disease and am so grateful I was able to stay in my home with my husband and three small children. This event is a tribute as well as a thanks to the competent and compassionate professionals at the Foshay Cancer Center at Jupiter Medical Center,” said Chris.
Chris Collins and Dr. Shieh were interviewed about the event by Tonia Rogers on WPTV, channel 5. The interview will be featured this evening, Monday at 5 PM EST. Jill Uccellini, Design Chair will be on WPEC, channel 12, with Ric Blackwell this Wednesday. Tickets are available for $40.00 per person.
