Executive Women's Golf Association Orange County Chapter Awards Annual Chapter Scholarship

Scholarship Awarded To Orange County, Ca Senior By Local Chapter Of Executive Women's Golf Association.

Orange County, CA (1888PressRelease) June 17, 2009 - The Orange County Chapter of the Executive Women’s Golf Association (EWGA) today announced its recipient of its annual scholarship to a local accomplished high school graduate. The EWGA, Orange County Chapter Scholarship was established to recognize outstanding young women who understand that life-lessons in Honesty, Integrity, Respect, Honor, Sportsmanship, Fun and Friendship can be learned through the game of golf.

The 2009 EWGA, Orange County Chapter Scholarship received a record number of applications from graduating seniors throughout Orange County. Eligible students are high school seniors who have participated on their high school girls’ golf team. Selection criteria includes academic performance, letters of recommendation, answers to short essay questions, and interviews with members of the Scholarship Committee.

This year’s recipient, Qui (Mimi) T. Tran, is a graduate of Rancho Alamitos High School in Garden Grove. Mimi will be attending the University of California, San Diego, and the Chapter will contribute $3,000 toward her tuition there. Mimi played on the boys’ golf team for three years and helped establish a girls’ golf program at her high school where she was Varsity Girls’ Golf Captain and Most Valuable Player. As a result, her Varsity Girls’ Golf Team won the title of League Champions (2008).

“Mimi has really been instrumental to the Girls’ Golf Program at Rancho Alamitos High School,” says Caroline Jones, President of the Orange County Chapter of EWGA. “She has proven to be a true leader by bringing her fellow students into the game of golf, a life-long sport.”

In addition to her success on the golf course, Mimi volunteered for numerous community service organizations, was a member of the National Honor Society and California Scholastic Federation, and maintained an exceptional grade point average.

Assisting exceptional women, like Mimi, to attain their goals in life through education is one of the key objectives of the Orange County Chapter of EWGA. This scholarship was made possible through the success of our Annual Spring Kick-Off and the generosity of our sponsors, such as Flanigan Law Group, Asset Planning, Inc. and Roger Dunn Golf Shops.

Founded in 1991, the EWGA exists to connect women to learn, play and enjoy golf for business and for fun. The EWGA currently has nearly 20,000 members and over 120 chapters in the United States, Canada and France.
