August 14, 2007 - The Gurjar Mahapanchayat held at Suraj Kund in Faridabad on Saturday unanimously decided to extend support to a political party that would support their reservation demand. 101 Heads from different villages of seven states also decided to visit villages dominated by Gurjars to spread awareness and mobilize the community for any future movement and protests. Kartar Bhadana personally washed the legs of those 101 leaders who were present there as the representatives of Gurjars.
The community leaders elected former Haryana minister Kartar Singh Bhadana to lead the movement- Bhartiya Jan Vikas Morcha. Kartar singh Bhadana said in his address to rally that this issue is not confined to any political party, neither there is any political motive behind the rally. Community leaders have come from different states with the single aim to ensure that we get the due share. Those who did not attend today’s rally have no right to claim themselves as the leader of Gurjars.
Gurjar Aarakshan Rashtriya Mahapanchayat co-ordinator and Ex-associate minister Kartar Bhandana has convinced the significant conviction for non-violent planned and unique agitation at his office at Surajkund, wherein daily activities were in full swing to assemble on 4th August, 07 from the various states unitedly.
Bhandana was the convener of the Mahapanchayat. Speaking on this occasion Bhadana said he had quit the BJP as the party had failed to give a positive assurance on accepting the demand of ST status for the community in Rajasthan.
Terming those who were killed in Rajasthan during the protest, Bhadana said that their sacrifice would not go in waste. "We need to reach out to everyone in our community to spread awareness about our just demand. We have to fulfill the dream of our injured soldiers (Ghayal Veer)”.
Nevertheless, community leaders said that besides preparing and mobilizing the community for their future course of action, they would focus on educating the next generation on the ‘glorious’ history of the community. "There is a wrong projection of the community. We are known either as milkmen or farmers. But the young generation must know how the community contributed to the freedom struggle. Among those who sacrificed their lives in Parliament attack case, three were from our community," pointed out Col Mamchand Chavveri of Palwal.
In his speech Bhadana lamented those leaders like Col. Kirorimal Baisla had tried to scuttle the Mahapanchayat. Significantly, Col. Baisla had led the Gurjar agitation in Rajasthan. Bhadana said he did not care for leaders like Col. Baisla when the members of the community were with him. He made a reference to Col. Baisla in the background of some anxious queries regarding his panchayat but he wanted to bring some political leaders which were not acceptable as it was a non political event, Bhadana said. The participant had started gathering at the venue of the Mahapanchayat since morning and waited till 2 pm.
