July 15, 2009 - Red Arrows fans are being offered a unique opportunity to meet the pilots at a special event in aid of a local children’s charity.
An Audience with the Red Arrows, hosted by former Olympian and World Champion Derek Redmond, takes place during this year’s Bournemouth Air Festival at 8pm on Friday August 21 at the Pier Theatre. Money raised at the ticket-only event will go to Round Table Children’s Wish.
“The Red Arrows are without doubt the world’s leading aerobatic display team and we’re delighted to have their support”, said Julie Atherton, fundraising coordinator for the charity.
She added: “After watching their display during the day, this is your chance to find out more about the pilots and ask them about one of the most exciting and challenging jobs in the world.”
The Red Arrows, established in 1965, are renowned ambassadors for the Royal Air Force. To date they have performed more than 4,000 displays in 53 countries.
It is hoped the event will raise more than £15,000 for Round Table Children’s Wish, which grants wishes for children with life-threatening illnesses.
Flight Lieutenant Mike Ling said "The Red Arrows are delighted to support Round Table Children's Wish. We look forward to visiting Bournemouth again, particularly as part of such an excellent cause. See you on the Pier!"
Tickets for the event, organised by Parliament Communications, can be purchased in advance: £12 for the show (£10 for children under 12) and £20 for the show and after party in Key West Bar. Tickets for the show will also be sold on the night for £14.50 (£10 for children under 12). Tickets for the over 18s after party can only be booked in advance and, if bought separately, cost £8.
Guests should arrive early for the chance to have their photos taken with the pilots and Derek Redmond. The after show party will feature a prize draw, special Red Arrows cocktails, a barbecue and hog roast as well as music from Samba Panashe, beach games, competitions with prizes donated by local businesses and music until 2am from Fire Radio DJ Jay Rachet.
