  • (1888PressRelease) October 05, 2016 - The European Chemical Agency (ECHA) has launched a public consultation on six potential Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC). Initiated on September 6, 2016, interested parties have until October 21, 2016, to submit comments and further information on the use, exposure, alternatives and risks of the substances to the ECHA.

    The six proposed SVHCs are:
    • 4,4'-Isopropylidenediphenol (Bisphenol A)
    • 4-Heptylphenol, branched and linear
    • 4-tert-butylphenol
    • Benzene-1,2,4-tricarboxylic acid 1,2-anhydride (trimellitic anhydride)
    • Nonadecafluorodecanoic acid (PFDA) and its sodium and ammonium salts
    • p-(1,1-dimethylpropyl)phenol

If the six potential SVHCs are adopted, the list of SVHCs will expand to 175.

Because SVHC can be introduced into consumer products at various points during the supply chain and production process, manufacturers are now reminded that early identification of potential high risk products and materials, along with the implementation of a strategy for testing, can be a good way to ensure compliance and reduce expenditure.
