  • Seattle-Bellevue-Everett, WA (1888PressRelease) May 19, 2009 - With last week’s release of REACT, Ergometrics’ new video-based test for Corrections and Probation Officers, Hiring Supervisors and Recruiters now have access to the most cutting edge option for validated pre-employment testing. Due to the unique working conditions, it has been very difficult to find individuals suited to work in a correctional environment. Candidates for criminal justice jobs may be too weak to work with offenders, susceptible to manipulation, too harsh or prone to over-involvement. REACT is a specifically designed, research-based, video simulation test that identifies outstanding candidates well suited for these demanding jobs. REACT is a useful and valid component for any job where incumbents interact with offenders.

To ensure the new test would be truly effective, Ergometrics spent over three years developing and validating REACT, partnered with 9 State and County correctional organizations from across the country. During development, Ergometrics utilized over 2000 incumbents to analyze job requirements. Subsequently, over 800 incumbents participated in a real world validation to demonstrate the positive relation between test scores and actual job performance.

When asked what makes REACT so unique in the testing industry, Carla Swander, Co-President and Co-Founder of Ergometrics responded, “It’s the simulation. Correctional professionals work in a unique environment. REACT simulates typical situations that officers face every day, situations that call for level headed response to all kinds of offender behavior.”

Jeff Good, Ramsey County Training Coordinator, said “The reason we were so excited to participate in the development of REACT is because we have to deal with every hiring mistake we make. We know from experience that not everyone is suited to work with offenders and, as an organization we need to know what kind of a management challenge we’re getting into before we make job offers. REACT finally gives us that crucial information.”
