September 05, 2009 - Treasure Tube is a newly launched treasure hunt competition offering its winner not one, but two dream prizes: a fantastic 20-room mansion in Argentat, in the scenic French Corrèze countryside, as well as a 45m2 flat in Paris, for a total value of one million euro.
To win, participants need to purchase a set of maps online inspired by the codes of pirates from long ago and use them to decipher three codes. The set of maps includes the real size reproductions of two paintings (3,281 x 3,281 ft) and three tracing paper blue prints, delivered in a tube. These Treasure Tubes can be ordered on the website thetreasuretube.com, where participants will also find visual clues, engage conversations with other Treasure Tube hunters and ultimately enter the codes they have found and see whether they are correct.
A purely visual hunt, accessible to anyone
The founder of the game, Michel Becker, who created the paintings and was also the illustrator of the famous treasure hunt “Searching for the Golden Owl”, was inspired by the visual codes of pirates from long ago, who were unable to read or write and used visual marks to remember where they hid their bounty.
So there is no need for knowledge of a language or of a particular subject to succeed at this treasure hunt. Anyone can participate and be in with a chance to win, regardless of language, culture or age. Counting the steps, the strides, or simply the distances to find the landmarks will only require imagination, sharp eyesight and craftiness. Naturally, the solution exists and must be found. The winner will be the first to crack the codes. The hunt is on until 31st December 2015.
