August 27, 2009 - SAN FRANCISCO – The Employment Law Alliance (ELA), once again, has expanded its reach with the addition of new members in Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania, giving the network an on-the-ground presence in 106 countries around the globe. The ELA is the world's largest network of more than 3,000 specialized labor and employment lawyers dedicated to assisting employers with legal needs across the U.S. and internationally.
The recent additions include: Aku Sorainen, founder and managing partner of Sorainen, based in the Tallinn, Estonia; Eva Berlaus-Gulbe, a partner with Sorainen’s Riga, Latvia office; and Renata Berzanskiene, a partner of Sorainen’s Vilnius, Lithuania office.
“The Baltic region is particularly active in the high-tech and commercial sectors, and our expanded capabilities in this area offer companies the benefit of utilizing true local experts. These lawyers know what their local employment law says, and perhaps more importantly, how it is interpreted. Given the increased importance placed on labor and employment law compliance by multi-national companies, we are delighted to be able to provide this type of first rate assistance,” said Stephen J. Hirschfeld, Esq., CEO of the ELA. “Sorainen has an outstanding reputation. They were recently named the Baltic’s ‘Law Firm of the Year.’ We are excited to work together via the ELA to offer our more comprehensive, efficient and cost-effective alternative to traditional single-firm, multi-office operations.”
The ELA also recently welcomed Gary Wolberg, a partner with Crowley Fleck of Bismark, N.D. to its membership roster. Other international members added in 2009 hail from Azerbaijan, Belarus, Isle of Man, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Nigeria, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan.
“Sorainen is delighted to work cooperatively with this sophisticated group to address the employment law concerns of companies with interests in the Baltic region. It’s a tremendous benefit for businesses to have such unfettered access to the area’s legal leaders – the professionals our local businesses seek out on tough employment issues,” noted firm Founder Aku Sorainen.
The ELA offers in-house counsel and human resource executives comprehensive legal guidance in every U.S. state and internationally. Its Global Employer Handbook allows free, 24/7 access to updated legal reference materials and information. The ELA also serves as a resource for trends and issues in employment via its America At Work polls on matters impacting daily business operations around the globe.
