March 06, 2008 - Electronica artist DegreeZero has offered up a single from his debut artist EP for use with the Planet Cancer, Flamingo-A-Go-Go annual fundraiser benefit held in Austin, TX. The song “Blind Sometimes” found on the Beneath The Surface EP, was placed as the opening theme in the promotional spot for the event. This year’s fundraiser, a Mahanttan-style party with an Austin flavor and a pink flamingo theme, promises to be a stellar gathering of celebrity and survivor, focused on awareness and contribution.
Know for his eclectic take on electronica Derek Lefholz aka. DegreeZero combines smooth melodies and rhythmic basslines to capture an essence of life. This essence as heard in “Blind Sometimes” can be attributed to the daily survival and adaptation life demands. Always forward-thinking DegreeZero is instinctual when a calling like this beckons. “Not a second thought comes to mind with a purpose such as Planet Cancer. That’s what we are in this for is to help one another – without cause there is no effect.”
Based in Austin, TX, Planet Cancer is, “an international network of young adults, ready and willing to help each other through what may well be the most difficult experience of their lives.” Part community forum, part event planner the website provides a common ground for cancer fighters and survivors. Based on ideals of resistance and change, this non-profit offers a unique voice for everyday people who have been affected by cancer. This forgotten demographic, which usually takes a backseat to the pediatric and geriatric cancer groups, forges connections through weekend retreats.
