June 23, 2008 - Officials announced today that the 2nd Annual Eden Prairie Memorial 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for September 13, 2008 at Purgatory Creek Park in Eden Prairie. The race will be held at the future site of the Eden Prairie Veteran’s Memorial slated to begin construction in the next few weeks.
For over 3 years now, organizers have been working hard to raise the funds needed to reach the goal of $403,500 to create the first memorial of its kind in Eden Prairie. Its intent is to remember those who have served and sacrificed in the Armed Forces. “We hope this event will again bring us closer to completing the dream we set out to accomplish 2 years ago”, said Elizabeth Grant, race organizer and committee member of the Eden Prairie Veterans Memorial.
Last years event was a great success with over 140 men, women and kids participating. Ben Seibert of Eden Prairie won the race in just over 17 minutes. “We had a great day, good weather and lots of people joining us to make 2007 a success, we hope to double participation in 2008”, Grant said.
Pre-registration is $15.00 until July 4th and will increase as the race gets closer with final registration peaking at $25.00 on race day. The running race will begin at 9:00 am with all participants receiving a free t-shirt. For more information visit http://www.epveteransmemorial.org/events.html or www.runningroom.com.
