Economic Change: CTF Budget Boost for Disabled Children

David White, Chief Executive, The Children’s Mutual (http://www.thechildrensmutual.co.uk) welcomed the Budget announcement.

(1888PressRelease) April 25, 2009 - “Children who receive disability living allowance in a tax year will qualify for additional annual payments of GBP100 or GBP200 into their Child Trust Funds (CTF). This means that next year approximately 100,000 children will benefit from the additional annual payments of which an estimated 40,000 will qualify for the higher GBP200 allowance.

“Making the transition into adult life is tough for every child and is especially challenging for disabled children and their families. An extra GBP100 a year paid into a Child Trust Fund could mean more than an extra GBP3,000 at age 18 and for the severely disabled children GBP200 a year could mean more than GBP6,000 extra.

“With over 4.2 million children having one, the Child Trust Fund is now embedded in the minds of the nation’s parents as the pre-eminent savings vehicle for their children’s future. In today’s Budget the Chancellor has highlighted that long-term savings are key to providing all children with a firm financial footing for their futures.”
