Easter Traditions Kept Alive

Chrystyna Kassaraba, Event Director of “The Beehive” in Boston, MA Keeps her Easter Traditions Alive with her Pysanky Creations!

Boston, MA-NH (1888PressRelease) March 31, 2009 - Easter is just around the corner and Chrystyna Kassaraba, Guest Services and Event Director at The Beehive, is getting ready to do her “Pysanky” -- which she has been doing with her family since she was 12 years old.

Pysanky - is a traditional craft in Ukraine, with a history of thousands of years. The method is similar to batik – patterns are drawn on an egg with wax, which then protects the covered areas from the dye that is applied. By repeating this process with different colors of dye, a multi-colored pattern is built up. Finally, the wax is removed to reveal the colors that were covered up at each stage. The symbols and colors used are rich in meaning; many pre-date the arrival of Christianity, and have had Christian interpretations layered on afterward (See attached Photo).

Chrystyna learned the craft from her Ukrainian parents. It was extremely important to them to teach Chrystyna the traditional craft and to keep a valued family tradition alive.

“I’m sure it will seem silly to some, but it means the world to me that I can pass on this Easter tradition and keep an artistic lineage going,” said Chrystyna Kassaraba, Guest Services and Event Director at The Beehive.

About Chrystyna: Chrystyna has worked in hospitality her entire life. As a child, she worked at her family-owned summer resort in Canada. In Massachusetts Chrystyna has worked with: Four Seasons Rialto, Zinc, Radius, Via Matta, Nantucket’s Straight Wharf and is currently at The Beehive.
