Lubbock, TX (1888PressRelease)
June 10, 2008 - Not only does Durant entertain nationwide, traveling from state to state and city to city, they are a group who ministers to all walks of life with their voices. The notes they sing and the way they combine their voices have a way of attracting crowds through every open door. The non-instrumental group, who also performs with instruments at every opportunity, follows the ministry of Acappella, produced and founded by the long-time Christian legend Keith Lancaster.
Although Durant has only been together for a few short years, they've taken the best of the best and combined talents to make what they now have. Using their God-given talents, they minister to others everywhere they go. People who have been to their concerts are amazed at the sounds this group can make with nothing more than their voices and some very unique sounds they make with their mouths alone. Not only do the adults hang on every note, but children leave their concerts trying to imitate the sounds they make with their mouths.
Loving fan, Neal Shelton says that he has grown quite close to this group and admits that he is "blown away by their singing." Shelton states that he has been in restaurants when Durant broke out into song for a waitress having a bad day. There you go, one of the advantages of singing without instruments for back up. The other is that "you have to have a good voice to sing without instruments because we all know that instruments cover up the mistakes," says Shelton. He laughs and says "I watched the people in the restaurant stop eating and turn to watch them sing. They got a round of applause at the end of the song." Their performance of "Thank you" originally performed by the Backstreet Boys was nothing less than outstanding and invigorating.
Maxey Sinclair, a 10-year old fan says "its hard to believe they're real people just like us because they dress normal and they're friendly. But they're still stars. Wow! I love Durant." Crowds of both young and old and auditoriums filled with all types of talent can watch Durant perform and there may never be a time when they won't be amazed at something they can do. You don't want to take your eyes of them.
Paul Phelps, minister of Farragut Church of Christ states, "They can really rock the house, but they can do whatever you want them to. If you want rockin', they rock, if you want subtle, they power down. They're very versatile." Members of the church in Knoxville say that they really draw a crowd and several members have wished to attend because of the music.
Acappella followers from years back will love the sounds of Durant as several of the members are from the Lancaster family. One of the members, Anthony will be touring with Acappella in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. Kimberly (Lancaster) Brantley is married to Alan, a member of Acappella. Melissa is the oldest Lancaster who is also producer for Durant as well as producer for the high school group Namesake. Melissa is also involved in Lancaster Transit, a mild combination of Electronica and folk music. There is no lack for serious talent in Melissa. She sings, she produces, she manages\and she engineers. Yet she's quiet and calm. The talent does in fact run deep.
The other-than-family talent is brought by Mandy Wilson who's famous for her voice as it rings when she sings "Beautiful Lamb". The talent and the volume by which this girl can sing, "Wow. . . there's nothing I can say but Wow" says Cherie Graham of Knoxville.
Darren Whorton is one of two men in the group and married to another member, Rachel. What a combination. These two do in deed make beautiful music. Rachel has amazing talent as a singer and can trigger her voice to make sounds that you didn't know even existed. As you watch her when she sings, she makes it look as easy as saying your ABCs.
The group has plans to be involved in the ministry all Summer long on their Summer Jam '08 tour which begins in Nashville, tours Texas, Alabama, stops in Florida and continues all the way back home in Tennessee. The other stops in between which will allow them to perform as many as four concerts on a weekend, are repeat venues which plan to keep them coming year after year.
Plans for 2009 include weeknight concerts located in close proximity to Nashville. If you would like to receive a monthly newsletter from Durant, please email the booking agent who will immediately begin sending you updates. A full repertoire can be viewed on the website www.acappella.org/durant.
