  • (1888PressRelease) August 24, 2012 - The north remote (Double Springs) access area will temporarily close on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2012, for installation of the new boat ramps and vault toilet. It is anticipated the south remote (Roundhouse Point) access area will remain open but experience intermittent temporary closures to accommodate installation of the new vault toilet.

The temporary closing of the remote access areas is necessary for the safety and protection of the public and construction crews.

Improvements to both sites include installing handicap accessible vault toilets and areas for trash/recycling collection. The south remote (Roundhouse Point) access area will have two new picnic sites. The north remote (Double Springs) access area will receive two new concrete boat ramps similar to the ramps installed at the south remote (Roundhouse Point) access area earlier this year.

“These new ramps and other amenities will be great enhancements to Devils Fork State Park,” said Scott Jolley project manager for Duke Energy. "We want to make access for recreation as easy as possible for everyone."

Construction at the remote access areas is scheduled to be complete by January 2013.

During the temporary closings, guests may access Lake Jocassee via the main boat ramps at the Devils Fork State Park. Devils Fork State Park is located off Cherokee Foothills Scenic Highway 11 in Oconee County, S.C.

Guests with additional questions can call 800-443-5193 or check Duke Energy's lake access website at http://www.duke-energy.com/lakes/access-information.asp for updated ramp access and closure information.
