Gina talked about saving energy in the laundry room by using cold water in the washer. Gina explained, “Cold water is just as effective in getting your clothes clean and it will help to prolong the life of your clothing while maintaining bright colors. It also helps to use shorter wash cycles for delicate and lightly soiled items.”
People do not realize how much energy can be saved by turning down the water heater. Gina said, “Your water heater works constantly to maintain a tank full of hot water, day and night. Turning it down just 10 degrees will reduce energy consumption. It is also a good idea for safety, especially when there are children in the home who can be seriously burned if the water is running too hot.”
Other tips Gina shared included insulating your plumbing and water heater, and repairing leaky faucets. If you should need to replace a faucet, choose one with energy saving features.
