Consumer Attorney Defense Network honored to offer pro bono services when Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) violated.
On December 19, 2003, President Bush signed HR 100 into law. This law significantly enhances the protections of the original Soldiers’ and Sailors’ Civil Relief Act (SSCRA) of 1918. Newly named, Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) it provides a wide range of protections for individuals entering, called to active duty in the Military, or deployed servicemembers. Intended to postpone or suspend certain civil obligations to enable deployed Armed Forces personnel to devote full attention to duty and relieve stress on the family members.
A few examples of such obligations that are protected against are:
• Credit Card Debt/Lawsuit/Harassment
• Mortgage-Foreclosures/Bankruptcy
• Tax Debt
• Secured, Unsecured and Government Debt Issues
The SCRA covers all Active Duty servicemembers, Reservist, and the members of the National Guard while on active duty. The protection begins on the date of entering active duty and generally terminates within 30 to 90 days after the date of discharge from active duty.

Both Kilmer and Lang agree that offering legal services is not as dangerous as being deployed.
