May 29, 2009 - The search is on to find the UK Glamour Girl of the Year 2009 and local charity Round Table Children’s Wish will be among those to benefit.
Model Katie Froud, who grew up in Bournemouth, hopes to raise more than £1.5 million for 12 charities with the national contest, which looks set to become a televised documentary.
Katie, well known for being the legs that launched the re-launch of Pretty Polly Nylons, runs the modelling information service Alba Model Info and already has more than 700 women signed up for the contest.
But she’s appealing for more women from her home county to take part.
“We plan to hold the semi-finals in Bournemouth in August and it is lovely to be coming home but we do need more contestants from this area”, Katie said.
She added: “This isn’t about page-three glamour and there won’t be any nudity – it’s more a lifestyle challenge to find the inner glamour of women of all ages, sizes and backgrounds.”
The top 12 contestants will feature on a ‘Glam Girls in the Movies’ calendar, which will be sold in the run up to Christmas throughout the UK.
As well as women with regular stories, entrants so far include plus size women, women who have achieved high weight loss, cancer survivors, those who have suffered bullying or domestic violence and the former homeless. The contest is open to women aged 18-68.
Julie Atherton, fundraising coordinator at Bournemouth-based Round Table Children’s Wish, said: “This event is a real celebration of individuality and of inner beauty. We’re delighted to be among the charities to benefit – the money raised will help us make dreams come true for a number of very poorly children.
‘Wish referrals have literally doubled so far this year, with the wish team receiving just 34 new wish requests in April alone. We urge people to support this event so that it can reach its ambitious target and benefit so many charities.”
The closing date for entries is midnight Sunday May 31st. To enter visit www.glamourgirloftheyear.org
