July 01, 2008 - “Pizza for the Hungry” also celebrates the best in humanity as a coalition of donors from different religions, races and nationalities came together to help people in need.
“Pizza for the Hungry” was a week-long event from June 16th – June 22nd. Multiple parties were held in different shelters every day. This was eyeBLINK’s second year of the event. In 2007, eyeBLINK donated 5000 slices to 5 New York City shelters in 5 days.
“We are very grateful to Domino’s for making it possible to expand the scope of the project,” said Obaid Kadwani, eyeBLINK’s Business Manager and the creator of Pizza for the Hungry. “The owners of all the Domino’s in the various states were so cooperative and so receptive to this project. They were eager to help and one owner, Mike Khan of NJ, even made phone calls to Domino’s owners in other states to garner their support.”
“Domino’s personified what it means to be a good corporate citizen, “ said Qurrat Kadwani, eyeBLINK’s artistic director. “It was heartwarming. In one instance, in Love Kitchen in the Bronx, more guests showed up than expected. We had to make an urgent phone call to Domino’s to buy another 75 pizzas. The local franchise owner amazingly had them ready within 20 minutes. There was no disruption of the pizza party and the good times continued.”
EyeBLINK plans to expand “Pizza for the Hungry: A Smile brings Hope” to 20 states next year.
Founded in 2003, eyeBLINK is a multicultural not-for-profit organization committed to promoting social change through theatre, dance and special events.
