DISTRICT 25 Top Notch Toastmasters and Pro A.M. Win Twice in Division D Contest

  • Fort Worth-Arlington, TX (1888PressRelease) November 08, 2011 - On October 29, 2011 at Mayfield Baptist Church, one of the District 25 Toastmasters' divisions held their annual fall contest. Eight contestants competed for best evaluation of a speech or presented a humorous speech. The competitions began at the club level in September, then advanced to area level, with each area representing four or more clubs. The area winners advance to division, of which there are six in the district. Areas 41, 42, 43, 44 and 45 were represented today at the Division D contest.

    Toastmasters International is an organization which promotes public speaking skill development and leadership training in a positive, supportive environment. Clubs meet weekly at various times, some open to the public, others within the corporate structure. Members can advance at their own pace, network with others and support their fellow club members in achieving their goals. There are 130 clubs in the North Texas District 25.

    Contestants today represented the clubs Heart of Texas Bridge Gappers, Baylor Orators, Top Notch Toastmasters, Waco Early Birds, and Pro A.M. In the evaluation portion of the program, Randy Hickerson of Waco Early Birds, Jim Cross of Heart of Texas Bridge Gappers, Phillip Folkertsma of Pro A.M. and Jody Helton of Top Notch Toastmasters competed. Each gave test speaker Karl Bradley of Texas Wesleyan Spellbinders positive critiques, accolades for a job well done, and pointers to make the speech shine even more. Jody Helton of Top Notch won first place and Phillip Folkertsma of Pro A.M. received second place.

    In the second portion of the contest, four competitors gave humorous speeches. Mike Thompson represented Baylor Orators and gave a speech entitled "Over the Hill". Frankie Rike represented Top Notch Toastmasters with her speech "Changes". Darrell Vickers represented Waco Early Birds with his speech called "Eat Your Toast", and Phillip Folkerstma competed again with his speech, "Mr. F". He own first place, and Frankie Rike of Top Notch took second.

    Winners will move on to compete at the District 25 Fall Conference on November 18th and 19th at the Sheraton DFW in Irving, Texas.
