November 16, 2007 - Don Baxter, of Distributive Management, introduces a methodology of Performance-Based Earned Value (PBEV), developed by Paul Solomon, an internationally recognized consultant and teacher of Earned Value Management. The practice of Earned Value is a set of guidelines linking technical performance measures, product metrics and quality factors, ensuring project management standards.
“In order to use PBEV efficiently, the right base measures need to be selected and progress needs to be objectively assessed,” as quoted by Baxter, as he addressed his audience.
Distributive brought to life its DataDrill EXPRESS tool as a web accessible resource to assist organizations in measuring and managing performance, requirements, schedules and cost objectives. The tool clearly outlines all progress achieved and highlights project status through the use of dashboards, alarms and status alerts. Baxter demonstrated how EXPRESS enables a selection of applicable EV measures from a Library of best practice measures which provide Project Managers with the ability to monitor, and control progress in terms of product scope, product quality requirements, risk factors, technical maturity and level of completion.
As the presentation wrapped up, Baxter received comments from the audience, such as, “the examples shown easily identify how managers are able to identify potential risk areas and develop recovery plans to keep their program on the road to success.”
