  • (1888PressRelease) June 11, 2011 - Dublin, Ireland - CityPOST Group, Ireland's largest independent parcel delivery company has been quietly growing behind the scenes for the last 24 Years. Recently the company has gained momentum by signing a multi-million Euro deal. The company also announced its turnover at 16 million Euros, which is expected to grow by 60 per cent.

Started in 1987 in a small basement office at Grand Canal Street in Dublin, the company now has the largest mail handling capacity in Ireland. The company not only delivers parcel to UK and Ireland, but also deals in international couriers. It has a turnover of €16 million that has been expected to grow by 60 percent by end of this year.

Sydney Glass, the man behind this huge mail handling business had started it alone after retiring from his estate agent job. Later, Conor and Ian, his two sons, joined him to make CityPOST the leading courier company in Ireland. Ian Glass, who is now the managing director, tells a lot about the company and how they fulfilled their dream which they had seen together in 1997 when they were just a small company of IR£650,000. He says "In the space of 14 years, we have had a year-on-year growth of 100 per cent. We have added a huge number of prestigious contracts and clients to our portfolio."

Throughout this journey, the company has been achieving several milestones. In 2002, the company made a big breakthrough and bagged 30 percent distribution contract of the Irish National Telephone Directory. Later in 2005, CityPOST received 60 per cent of the national Portuguese Telephone Directory Contract.

Lisbon Treaty Print's, mail preparation and distribution contract and Road Safety Authority's, road rules delivery contract, are among the list of major contracts company gained in the year 2008. Company's other major clients include Superquinn, SuperValu, Woodies, Atlantic Homecare, B&Q, Stena Line, Irish Ferries, Currys, Dixons, Clerys, Ulster Bank, AIB, Glanbia and Kellogg's.

When asked how they managed to turn CityPOST's small basement office on Grand Canal Street in Dublin to a company of 188 employees and an office of 26,000 square feet at Ballymount. Ian replied "If you look at our balance sheet, we have a net worth of €8 million to €10 million. This is because I didn't pull the money out of the company; I didn't spend it for personal chattels.

"We just worked hard and build up the assets of the business and retained the profits in the business. This means we have a significant warchest to go full frontal with both An Post and Portuguese Post office."

With the liberalisation of postal market in Ireland, Glass believes CityPOST is ready to go battle with An Post on an even larger scale. This, he believes is because the company kept a steady ship through the good times and the bad.
