Disney Store Inc. Helps San Gabriel Valley Charities at Holidays

The holidays are looking brighter for Hillsides, a foster care children’s charity, and several more San Gabriel Valley charities who have been touched by Disney Store Inc. in Pasadena.

Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) December 30, 2008 - PASADENA — With so many charities finding themselves requiring additional community support to meet the increased needs of individuals impacted by today’s economy, the holidays are looking brighter for Hillsides, a foster care children’s charity, and several more San Gabriel Valley charities who have been touched by Disney Store Inc. in Pasadena.

During its holiday gathering, Disney Store Inc. employees savored a variety of potluck dishes and delicious desserts, while entertained by two of their employees, Sky Liu and Lisa Donahey, who is also a volunteer at the foster care charity. In addition, they showcased the charitable contributions made by Disney Store Inc. and its employees.

Three times per year, Disney allows its employees to purchase the product samples that are not sold in its stores. “For the first time, we allowed our team to vote for which Pasadena-based charity should receive these proceeds. Hands down, Hillsides won! “ Jim Babcock of Disney Store Inc., said in an email to Garni.

“Disney Store Inc. gives from the heart and then some. Not only have they supported Hillsides and other local charities, they have redoubled their effort to bring happiness and joy this holiday to thousands of people,” said Nancy Garni, the foster care charity’s director of development.

Raising over $16,000 from the sample product sales, Disney Store Inc. decided to split the proceeds and give one half to the foster care charity and the other half to runner up, the Pasadena Humane Society. In addition, the employees sponsored a tween holiday party, adorned with High School Musical, Camp Rock and Hannah Montana décor, for Maryvale in Rosemead. The employees also adopted nine families, comprised of 47 individuals who are served by Foothill Family Services in Pasadena.

“Hillsides has valued the relationship with Disney for years. An event like this truly underscores the depth of their generosity and commitment to those in need,” said Garni, adding that Disney is the definition of creating safe places for children.
