Detroit, MI (1888PressRelease)
October 27, 2009 - Two Detroit-based recording artists, “Whitney Raenan” (Country/Pop) and “Newland” (R&B), are using the power of the internet to launch their music careers. Forgoing the traditional route of selling cds, the singers are set to release their debut singles online after having secured distribution deals with Universal Music Group. Whitney Raenan’s “iCandi” and Newland’s “Pillow” will be available for digital download only starting October 27, 2009 through multiple online outlets such as iTunes, Zune, Rhapsody and Target.com
Whitney Raenan, a native of Farmington Hills, MI, is no stranger to the internet having already established herself as a YouTube favorite. Her heartfelt renditions of songs such as “What Hurts the Most” by Rascal Flatts, Sarah McLachlan’s “Angel” and “Stay” by Sugarland have received well over two million views and captured the attention of many people around the world, including her manager Fred “Scout” Moore. “Whitney’s sweet-as-honey voice and classic, ‘girl next door’ looks made me realize that she was destined for stardom,” says Scout. “She is a naturally talented singer with a great personality… big things are in store for her.” The flirty, up-tempo dance track “iCandi” is infused with a pop/country blend sure to get toes tapping, fingers snapping and everyone onto the dance floor.
Newland is a seasoned performer originally from Grand Rapids, MI. He is no stranger to the stage having been the opening act for many artists including NeYo, T-Pain, EnVogue, Lloyd, Mint Condition and Bow Wow. In addition to his singing and dancing, Newland is also a talented songwriter. Not only did Newland write “Pillow”, he also penned label-mate Whitney Raenan’s “iCandi”. “Newland has the drive and ambition to play a major role in the industry. He is passionate about music and it shows in his performances”, says Scout, manager of both Newland and Whitney Raenan. Newland’s smooth and sultry “Pillow” has a tantalizing beat and seductive lyrics that will leave listeners feeling sexy and in the mood for love.
As digital downloads and file sharing sites take the music industry by storm, sales of physical music formats (such as CDs) are experiencing a rapid decline. With consumers now able to purchase music online, 24 hours a day and from anywhere in the world, record labels have been forced to rethink their business models and make digital sales a priority. The downloading of singles remains wildly popular with consumers, yet most music buyers still shy away from buying full albums digitally. Universal Music Group is hoping to stay ahead of the trends by taking an unorthodox approach and releasing the debut singles of these Detroit-based artists entirely through digital downloads.
