January 21, 2009 - Memphis, TN - The Delta Highway™ country music band will perform in celebration of the inauguration of Pres-elect Barak Obama in Washington, DC. The Memphis members of the band embarked on their exciting journey early Thursday Morning, stopping in Nashville only long enough to collect the remaining members of their recording group.
Arriving in Washington two days early to sightsee, get familiar with their surrounding, and set-up, the recording group is scheduled to perform three short sets at as many locations in close proximity to the festivities on the mall. Memphis Sound Entertainment will provide complete turn-key production for the band in all three locations, including staging, sound, lighting, power generators, and backline. "The only way we could possibly make this happen was to provide the services ourselves, as there was simply nothing available in or around Washington (DC)" says their Producer, Woody Degan, who has been working feverishly day and night to finalize the arrangements. "No equipment. No hotels. No Transportation. Nothing at all is available in or around the city, so we just did what we had to do."
To that end, Degan provided a forty foot travel trailer emblazoned with the new Delta Highway™ logo to serve as their lodging for the next several days. With sleeping room for seven, complete kitchen, refrigerator/freezer, shower and bathroom, and outfitted with all of the wireless technology, satellite, games, and amenities one could want, the band is hardly 'roughing it.' The recreational vehicle will provide the luxury of being comfortable while being right in the middle of the action. "It's simply convenient for the band to step off stage directly into the rv" Degan continues, "especially with the weather being so cold. It also provides the ability to move everything directly from event to event in the heat. You can't beat that! We'll be using peripheral roads mapped out in accordance with information provided by the local authorities. My hat is off to them. With as much as they've had to do and as busy as they are, they've been awesome."
The Delta Highway™ band is currently in production of a new CD tentatively titled Shut Up & Drive, but "the opportunity to perform here and experience this moment in history won't come around twice, so we decided to take a break from the record to embrace it" Degan states.
