April 28, 2009 - The US$500k project marks the first TelePresence Asia-wide rollout for the company, whose dual objectives are to reduce business travel expenditure and the organisation’s carbon footprint.
As the largest supplier of products and services to the semiconductor industry, the company creates and commercialises the nanomanufacturing technology that helps to produce virtually every semiconductor chip and flat panel display in the world. The company had adopted TelePresence in the US as a ‘green initiative’ to reduce the company’s carbon emissions and quickly discovered that the high quality visual and audio videoconferencing solution served as a cost-saving alternative to business travel. As a result, the company decided to roll out TelePresence systems in all major operational locations, with Taiwan as the first site for TelePresence deployment in the Asia Pacific region.
With the ‘same room’ meeting experience created through TelePresence, executives no longer feel the need to catch a plane to attend an important meeting. In addition, fewer flights mean a smaller carbon footprint, so the company is not only protecting the environment but also minimising cost and time on corporate travel.
Responsible for every aspect of the installation, Datacraft provided a unified communications video solution featuring Cisco TelePresence 3000. The Cisco TelePresence 3000 solution comprises a three-panel, 65-inch plasma screen system complete with a specially designed table that seats six participants on one side or a "virtual table" for 12. It supports life-size images, using ultra high-definition video and spatial audio. Datacraft worked with the client to ensure that every detail would result in the creation of a ‘true virtual’ meeting – even down to the furniture, lighting and logo backdrop.
Datacraft, which has been working with the client since 2007, was chosen for the project due to its proven experience and knowledge in integrating IP Telephony and TelePresence solutions. Datacraft’s successful implementation of the TelePresence system for Cisco Taiwan was an excellent showcase of its capability. Datacraft has also installed over 70 Cisco TelePresence solutions in the region.
“We are very pleased to be entrusted with the TelePresence implementation in the region,” said Benjamin Wang, general manager, Datacraft Taiwan. “We are increasingly seeing clients across all sectors introducing the appealing TelePresence technology because of the undeniable benefits of faster decision-making process, enhanced teamwork and improved working relationships. It is a great tool to enhance the high-tech manufacturer’s efficiency, communication and global collaboration with a quick return on the initial investment.
“This installation showcases our advanced capabilities in the integration of Cisco TelePresence solutions, of which we have deployed hundreds worldwide. We were able to draw on our vast experience and expertise of engineers across the region to ensure the rapid and successful completion of this project,” Wang said.
As part of the contract, Datacraft will also be providing a one-year Uptime maintenance and support service. Uptime is a continuous 24 x 7 x 365 managed service for troubleshooting and resolution of issues facing mission-critical IT systems.
