Dance Teacher Jacki Dowling-Ford interviews with JigTV.com about The Rockettes, Jo and Jax Dance Clothing Line, and Being Open

Jacki Dowling-Ford is a graduate of the University of Utah on the William F. Christensen scholarship with a performance/teaching emphasis. Her ballet performances include Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, A Midsummer Night's Dream, and Sleeping Beauty.

Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) April 29, 2009 - She has performed at the 2004 Tony Awards, worked with Hugh Jackman on "One Night Only," and performed with the Rockettes for 3 years. She is most known for being a teacher, teaching as far away as Tokyo. She is currently teaching in New York City.

In her dancer interview with JigTV, Jacki talks about how high the learning curve is to being a Rockette. In her 3 years there she learned that paying attention to specifics is completely important. Anyone in the online dance community who wants to try out for the Rockettes should remember that it is its own technique. If you try to make it your own, you take away from the brilliance that it is.

Jacki started a clothing line with her sister Jo called Jo and Jax, which are their nicknames. They started the clothing line because they wanted something fabulous to wear for auditions but because they are so tall they had trouble finding anything that fit right. Even if you are just watching an online dance class you can still look fabulous when you dance. Though they just started making clothes for themselves, so many people wanted them that they started their clothing line.

Jacki draws inspiration from her sister, who is her idol. They know each other so well they can see how the other would do something even if they aren't together. This is a great source of inspiration because she gets to draw from her sister's technique while making it her own.

The training Jacki Dowling-Ford got from college is one that she would never have done any different. Though a lot of dancers question whether they should go to college, Jacki had a great experience. She took ballet in college which got her in with a lot of ballet companies when she graduated. Though she always knew she was going to be a dancer, she advises her fellow dancers to be open to anything. She recommends trying anything and being open to every experience. You never know what is going to be your niche until you try it.
