It's back, and in a much bigger way - with well laid-out plans that promise to send thrills down your spine. Sunburn Goa, 2011 celebrates its fifth anniversary this year and is busy pulling out all stops to make this the mother of all festivals. From December 27th -29th, around 30 crore investment will be poured into this extravaganza at Candolim, Goa.

More than 46 thousand people partied at Sunburn last year and this year Sunburn will see over 1 lakh people attending the three day festival. Adding to the glitz and glamour of the event, Harvey Goldsmith, the man known for producing and managing some of the biggest names in the business - from The Rolling Stones to Dame Shirley Bassey to Elton John to The Black Eyed Peas will now head to Goa. The sets will have video-mapping for the first time which has never been seen in India before.
This year for the first time Sunburn brings down the European style Arena gigs Sunburn tour scheduled for mid- December with a crowd capacity of 5,000 and above. This versatile venue has an intimate feel where all visitors are treated to fantastic stage views allowing them to enjoy the full-blown entertainment experience. Big names from the electronic music industry like Pete Tong, Gabriel & Dresden, Jerome Ismae -ae, Perfect Stranger, Laughing Buddha, Rae, Brute Force will grace Sunburn's shores for the first time ever to set the festival on fire! What's more… Sunburn also brings back the biggest crowd favorites like Above & Beyond, Jalebee Cartel, Funkagenda, Pearl, John 00 Fleming, Skazi, Ma Faiza, Anil Chawla & Dale Anderson, Liquid Soul, Sanjay Dutta, Lost Stories, Nawed Khan and Shaanwill.
Larger arena will have four main stages and three small stages. The Main stage will cover all the major genres of electronic dance music - trance, house and techno; the other stages will showcase live / experimental, where fresh and unexplored talent will be promoted. For the first time, Sunburn is offering a level above VIP- VVIP Tables and one stage is also dedicated to live bands this year. These stages are designed keeping in mind the creativity and unique Sunburn experience which will be consistent through the whole festival. Sunburn is an eco-friendly forum and in partnership with United has undertaken the Sunburn "Leave no Trace" campaign to reach out to the free-spirited youthful fans of Sunburn. Along with recycling garbage cans for plastic, glass and other items, volunteers along with Sunburn enthusiasts will have the opportunity to clean the venue during and after the event, to restore the beach to its original beauty. Also, the entire lighting of the Sunburn event will be switched off for five minutes, with the crowds waving neon sticks to pledge their support for energy conversation. There will be an electric tree at the Sunburn venue, where people can leave messages and tips on how to make "Leave no Trace" part of your daily lives. Also, people can donate and borrow books at the "Leave no Trace Library", promoting reuse of paper.
For those of you who missed the scorching heat of December in Goa here's some great news; Sunburn coming up with exciting Sunburn cafes in Mumbai and Goa to enhance the sunburn experience. While the festival is gaining tremendous organic growth with the expected turnout this year being close to 100,000, this business expansion is a strategic step towards taking the brand beyond the festival. To add to their expansion, Sunburn plans to go global- Percept is also looking at taking the Sunburn experience to global destinations like Dubai, Bali, Malaysia and Sri Lanka. With this move, Percept will be the pioneer in taking an Indian intellectual property in electronic dance music (EDM) to the global arena. For the first time ever, they will be creating a "glocal" music experience, where music and talent that is produced locally will be exported to the global arena.
Sunburn, 2011 will also see fans from all across the globe filming their experience at the Asia's biggest electronic and dance music festival. The videos shared by the thousands of fans will then be edited and put together into a 90 minute film by Percept Picture's Joint Director and creator of Sunburn, Mr. Shailendra Singh. The film is inspired by "Life in a day" by Ridley Scott. The film will be available for viewing on Youtube.
For all the aspiring DJs, 'The Sunburn Lenovo DJ Star Contest' is not to be missed as it aims to showcase the mixing talent of amateurs. The contestants will have to make a 30 minute mix for the contest, which can be made using the Lenovo DJ Star application software. The contestants will have a "bank" of tracks to choose from each genre, or can even pick out tracks from their own pool of tracks. Post the shortlist phase, Sunburn will put out about 25 mixes for users to vote on. The mix with max votes will win the contest. The gratification for the contest is a Lenovo Laptop, ticket to Sunburn. The major gratification will be the Lenovo DJ star will perform at Sunburn at the Lenovo kiosk.
