July 22, 2009 - During the research and development stage, Cygnus looked at the new cart from the eyes of the caregiver. Ease of movement, adjustable height and accessory add-on’s were noted as a few of the most important features to care staff. “We really took a fresh approach when we looked at producing a cart”, said Cygnus President Robert Waugh.
Cygnus designers looked at ways to integrate features found in more expensive carts. Foot pedal triggered height adjustment from 30” to 48”, keyless lock and ergonomically designed scratch resistant top were integrated into the new cart. Another unique feature is the slightly wider keyboard tray drawer to allow for some of the wider keyboards on the market. Cygnus also included oversized, dual 4” wheels that ensure the cart can be can be transported over thresholds and cables.
The cart is being manufactured using state of the art lasers and vertical machining devices at Cygnus’ Michigan-based facility. “We went out of our way to use high quality and durable materials for the carts,” said Waugh, who selected as many Michigan-produced components as possible. “We have proven that you can create a high-end product, made in the USA all while keeping the price-point attractive.” The new cart is being offered in its standard configuration at $1,295 which includes many options.
