Simply but elegantly designed, the website reveals the varied background of the owner and manager of the Crystal Café, Daniele Panetta. Daniele has had years of experience working in many of the best patisseries around the world, including London, Rome and Sydney. His extensive knowledge of the delights of Italian cuisine can be seen in the variety of Italian influenced dishes on the menu.
The website reveals such delectable dishes as the smoked salmon sandwich with fior di latte and capers, the bruschetta al pomodoro, the spinach and feta filo wrap served with Italian leaves, and the wonderfully named Mama’s lasagne served complete with a fresh garden salad. These are meals fit for all – not only are they made with seasonal, local products, it is the passion that goes into them that makes the flavour beyond this world.
The website also gives information about the gastronomic delights of the cake and patisserie selection, clearly infused with Daniele’s expert knowledge gained over the course of several years. Daniele uses traditional methods and twists them, so that the result is a classic pastry with a twist. The Mille Feuille is a French influenced dessert made from puff pastry, vanilla crème saint Honore and expertly given the finishing touch of fondant and chocolate - “The best in Cairns” exudes Michelle Watts, regular customer since the cafe’s opening. But it is the seasonal Biscotti which shows the true Italian roots which established this delightful treat. Made Italian style with organic dried fruit and chocolate chunks, it is an indulgence most of us would easily find room for.
